Welcome to Ms. Byrdwell's
Homepage
My name is Phyllis
Byrdwell. As a music educator, my emphasis is on
choral music. I remain dedicated to the education of all our
students and am committed to the importance of music in that
educational process.
I have classes at
both the Upper and Middle School campuses. All
of our Middle and Upper School performing arts classes develop the
artistic ability of Lakeside students through the study of music
and drama. Our curriculum offers support for
individual success, encourages creative problem-solving, deepens
self-understanding, and develops social skills through
collaboration.
At the Middle School, by
grade level, students have the following music courses:
- two trimesters of sixth grade music.
- one trimester of seventh grade music
- one trimester of eighth grade music
At the Upper School, students
are expected to take one visual Arts class and one Performing Arts
class.
- Visual Arts include:
Photography, Ceramics, Painting
- Performing Arts include:
Drama, Music
My Upper School courses include:
Chorale --- a
cross-graded class that works to learn a variety of styles and
genres within the choral music spectrum. The class allows students
with little or no singing experience to feel comfortable as does
the more advance singer. The objective is to learn the mechanics of
singing (diction, pitch accuracy, blend, vocal projection, rhythms
and notation).
Chorale is a year-long class.
Vocal Ensemble --- a smaller cross-graded class that works
on choral music usually at a faster pace because of their music
experience. Students may opt to be in Vocal Ensemble for a semester
or for the whole year.
Vocal Ensemble has a credit/no credit grading
system.
