Welcome to my web page.  I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade art as well as 8th grade drama which is an improvisation class.

7th grade art:
This year the 7th graders began with a unit on water color techniques.  Their culminating project was to select a landscape photo as inspiration and use this for a final painting.  Their second unit is with clay.  After learning various techniques with this medium, they are currently completing a mask which will have a purpose of their choosing.  The final unit of the year will be drawing.  Students will learn various tricks of the trade in creating perspective on a flat surface.

8th grade art:
8th graders began the year with a unit of charcoal drawing.  The main focus of this unit was to learn how to convey lighting and form.  Their final project was to build a still life as their subject, including using a lamp to create a dramatic shadow.    The second unit is also with clay.  In the 8th grade year, their skills are advanced through teaching them how to make clay balloons and coiled vessels.  Students build three projects, with the third being a carefully planned piece on the theme, "A Meaningful Duality."   In this unit, Students are also introduced to a variety of glaze techniques from which they can choose for the finishing process.  Their final unit of the year will be about color theory and brush techniques using either acrylic paint of printmaker's ink.

8th grade Improv:

For one term of this course, students will participate in a drama/improvisation class, which builds upon the basic acting skills students learned in their Drama 7 class and provides new opportunities to build trust and acceptance in a group experience. In this class students develop skills that will enable them to harness their imagination in order to create believable characters and develop interesting dramatic situations. Students will work with pantomime, props, costume and set pieces and short scripts from which whole scenes are improvised. The goal is not to make a finished product but to discover how to keep the story alive, honest and engaging. Students will also play a significant role in the class by giving one another honest and helpful feedback. A secondary goal of this class is to help students expand their understanding and appreciation of themselves and others in their group.
