TIME TO BRAG!!

Students in High School Band have taken over Pep Band for Basketball games.  They now select the music, rehearse, set up, and perform on their own without the assistance of the teacher. They are doing an excellent job and they sound great!

The High School Pep Band hosted a Band Night at the home basket ball game on January 22.  Students from both middle school bands and both elementary bands performed with the High School Band at half time.

Emilie Barker represented Granite Falls High School as a member of All State Band in Yakima February 12-15.  After three days of rehearsing together the All State Band performed in the Sun Dome for an audience of over four thousand.

Holly Chapman and Emilie Barker performed solos at the regional solo and small ensemble festival February 6 at Cascade High School in Everett.  Holly got a rating of “excellent” and Emilie got the highest rating possible of “superior”.

The Jazz Band traveled to Mill Creek for the Mill Creek Jazz Festival on November 14 where they had an outstanding performance.  On March 5 they will perform in the Friends of Frank DeMiero Jazz Festival at Edmonds Community College.  This group has grown from four high school members two years ago to now fourteen of our best players from High School Band.

High School Band students are mentoring fifth grade Beginning Band students with weekly private lessons.  The beginning students are progressing more quickly than if they were just playing in Band and the high school students are gaining valuable experience.

High School Band will perform in the regional Concert Band Festival on March 24 at Arlington High School.  We also plan to take a spring concert tour in May to the Leavenworth/Wenatchee area where the Band will perform for several small schools.  In addition we have two more concerts at home on March 23 and May 27.  We wrap up our season with a concert tour of local elementary schools and a performance for graduation.  All together High School Band students will have accomplished more than thirty performances this school year.

We have a Middle School/High School Orchestra that meets every Wednesday after school at the old high school band room.  The orchestra consists of students from beginning level through advanced and is coached by Mr. Roy, Mrs. Lawrence, and Kathy Knull who all volunteer their time for this group.
